Viola

Benedict Mitterbauer (*1994 in Vöcklabruck) received his first instrumental lessons at the age of 5 in the Oberösterreichisches Landesmusikschulwerk.

From 2009-2013 he studied with Prof. Predrag Katanic at the Anton-Bruckner-Privatuniversität in Linz and since autumn 2013 he is a student of Prof. Thomas Riebl at the Mozarteum Salzburg.

Additionally he is studying IGP Viola at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna since 2014.

His greatest successes are the 2nd prize at the Concorso Lionel Tertis 2016, winning the EMCY prize in 2014, as well as the Nibelungenförderpreis 2012, the Dr. Josef Ratzenböck-Stipendium 2012 and many first prizes in the austrian youth competition prima la musica - as a solo player but also in different chamber music formations.

In 2013 and 2015 Benedict Mitterbauer received a scholarship from the International music academy in the principality of Liechtenstein.

Furthermore, he attended several chamber music- and solo-classes in Germany, Austria and France (for example at the Kronberg Academy and Ecoles d´art americaines de Fontainebleau 2012) with Bruno Pasquier, Gérard Caussé, Pierre-Henri Xuereb, Tasso Adamopoulos, Patrick Jüdt, Nicolas Altstaedt and Alina Ibragimova. Further masterclasses with Barbara Westphal, Tatjana Masurenko, Hartmut Rhode and Jean Sulem.

In 2014 he won the audition for the principal violist in the Wiener Jeunesse Orchester.

Since 2015 he was able to substitute regularly in the Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna and in the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, where he just won the audition for the post of the associate leader Viola.

Furthermore he is member of the LGT Young Soloists since 2016, with whom he just recorded a CD for Sony’s classic label RCA Red Seal appearing as a soloist.

Benedict Mitterbauer played on many concert tours, which led him throughout Cuba, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, the United States of America, Israel and large parts of Europe.

Invitations to several Crossover-projects caused an enlargement of his stylistic range as well as collaborations with renowned musicians as Nigel Kennedy, Benjamin Schmid, Herbert Berger, Martin Gasselsberger und Sebastian Gürtler.

Benedict Mitterbauer is a member of different chamber music formations and played at chamber music festivals like the Festival Mozart-Havanna, the Mattseer Diabelli Sommer, the Liedwoche at Schloss Elmau and the Salzburger Kammermusik Festival with renowned musicians as Thomas Zehetmair, Thomas Riebl, Juliane Banse, Clemens Hagen, Benjamin Schmid and Emmanuel Tjeknavorian.
